Mt. Sinai Services/Elmhurst Hospital Center is a hospital-based psychology internship, with opportunities to do inpatient and outpatient clinical work in a variety of settings. We are a lifespan-focused internship with options to rotate through child and adolescent and adult inpatient and outpatient services. Interns are assigned four 3-month rotations based on their training goals and objectives for their internship year. Clinical sites include adult, child/adolescent, and dual diagnosis inpatient; women’s forensic inpatient; pediatrics, adolescent, and adult medical primary care clinics; adult and pediatrics consultation-liaison; psychiatric emergency room, school-based mental health clinic and child abuse/sexual abuse clinic as well as a local area jail. Psychological assessment is a significant part of our program, including cognitive, socio-emotional, and neuropsychological assessment. Throughout the year, interns are assigned outpatient individual (adults, children and adolescents), family, and group psychotherapy patients as well. We also provide didactics and have a strong emphasis on supervision. Candidates must have had at least two years of practicum/externship experience, including intervention experience as well as psychological testing and report writing (objective, personality and projective). By the time of the application, candidates must have passed their comprehensive exam and have been admitted for doctoral candidacy. In addition, applicants must have an approved dissertation proposal by the start of internship. In compliance with APA guidelines, and to serve our patient population better, we try to obtain a balanced and diversified class each year with regard to gender and ethnicity. Please note all employees, including psychology interns, must receive their initial COVID-19 vaccination series by start date of employment. |
